Huh, that's surprisingly high, more than $3K for every man, woman, and child in the USA. Given that most people don't have loans, the average debt for people who do must be quite high.
Curiously, the $1T number in the press report does not appear, that I can find, in the CFPB report. (But there's a lot of interesting numbers in the latter.)
