the world as it is

i grew up in a part of colorado that was so white, "minority" meant you were catholic.

as i sit here in a chain cajun fastfood place i'm listening to zydeco music (clifton chenier, to be precise) and the japanese national cashier is translating orders from english to spanish for the fry cooks.

the table in front of me is full of koreans speaking korean. the table behind me is full of indians speaking hindi.

the japanese americans further back are speaking english.

i'm the only white guy in the place.

the catfish is cooking and mac & cheese is considered to be a vegetable.

this is so removed from the way i grew up, i might as well be on another planet.

you tell me what's not to like.
