haiku of the moment

just 'cause you feel it
(because you really feel it)
doesn't mean it's there

i.m. conversation with myself and karpov

b1: sir.

karpov: Howdy

b1: got 10?

karpov: Yes...just about that long

b1: i'm trying to figure out if i should add this to my blog or not, but wanted to talk to you about it first ...
b1: maybe i'll figure it out that way.

karpov: Okay

b1: but yeah, that's from the radiohead song.
b1: if you write a LOT of haiku, you get to the point where you realize 5 syllables when you hear them.
b1: subconsciously.
b1: and one of the things i like about haiku -- i insist on, really, is forced meter.
b1: so i have two good five syllable lines -- what do i do with the middle?
b1: that's the reason i wrote it.
b1: i also like the idea of taking one medium and trying to transfer it to another ...
b1: brand it.
b1: so music-to-poetry here.
b1: and haiku, in its purest form is NOT about feeling.
b1: it's sort-of anti-feeling.
b1: since it's zen.
b1: so i like that it sort of slaps the idea of not writing about feeling ...
b1: by being *only* about feeling ...
b1: but describing it as not being there ...
b1: which is definitely a zen concept.
b1: except for the fact that the inspiration isn't mine ...
b1: i think it's one of the better things i've ever written.

karpov: I like being a sounding board
karpov: Sorry, just got a call, now back

b1: so i don't know whether i should write that stuff down or not ...
b1: my blogging world is WAY too narcissistic anyway.
b1: i'm not sure i want to make it worse.
b1: this is the best "true" haiku i've ever written...
b1:
food need increases
as flowers go out of bloom
thirsty hummingbirds

karpov: I saw that one
karpov: I liked the one with summer making way

b1: it has all the standard elements -- aloofness, away-ness, nature, and *season*. season is goddamn important to those losers.
b1: most of the stuff i write, they'd say, "those aren't haiku. at best, they are short poems."

karpov: Another radiohead haiku line...
karpov: We hope that you choke

b1: yeah.
b1: modern music is full of that kind of stuff.

karpov: I'd say all this is interesting and would make for a good entry
karpov: I need to start driving, but I'll read anything more you send

b1: funny. i'd just come to the opposite conclusion and decided to not post it. all this sounds self-aggrandizing, as if i need more of that.
b1: but i'll go ahead post this as a comment on your recommendation.
b1: thanks. have a good drive.
